Hypothesis

Automating the municipal permitting process for multi-residential housing in Canada is one of the most impactful ways we can accelerate housing delivery at scale.

Multi-AR believes that combining standardized Building Information Modeling (BIM) with automated rule-checking technology will improve the speed, consistency and transparency of the building permitting process.

Municipal permitting delays are slowing housing delivery across Canada. If local building regulations can be translated into machine-readable rules and embedded into well-structured BIM models, a great amount of compliance checking could be performed automatically before submission to authorities.

Ultimately, this approach aims to:

  • Significantly reduce application review times

  • Minimize repetitive manual verification

  • Allow municipal staff to focus on design quality, livability and long-term city building

  • Help municipalities efficiently manage the increasing volume of development applications
